Germany reports less foreign rail traffic 08. März 2010

Germany's federal statistical office (Destatis) reported that 312.1 million t of goods were carried on the country's rail network in 2009. This equates to a 15.9% drop, the biggest decline ever registered. The amount of freight is 5 t less than the volume noted in 2005. Cross-border services suffered particularly badly, as volumes there fell by 23% to 101.4 million t (32.5% of the overall transport volume). Around 210.7 million t (67.5%) were conveyed by domestic services, equating to an 11.9% decline.
